I had not gotten this predator guard on my bluebird house until today because of the wind, cold and being busy with life in general. Today I made myself face the chill and wind to get it installed. Why face the weather today, you might ask. Because the bluebird house that the bluebirds are almost finished building their nest in, suddenly has an invasive species taking interest…the dreaded House Sparrow.I have a game cam taking videos of the bird house. All was well until about four days ago when I noticed the arrival of a family of House Sparrows. The bluebirds seemed to tolerate them the first day. Day two saw a decrease in bluebird visits and yesterday and most of today, nothing but HS.Enough is enough. I put on a jacket and put one of the predator guards on the bluebird house. Will it work? I sincerely hope so and also hope the bluebirds will return.About the guard itself. I think it’s a cool idea. It should deter raccoons if they can get past the large baffle below the bluebird house on my 4×4 post. From personal experience I know the outside ends of the wires hurt. The guard was not the easiest thing to install probably because it is so flexible and those wire points hurt. But it is up now!I am hoping that the HS will not come into the wired area. I read that they don’t like anything over their heads? Hope there is some truth in that.
