Albino Threadfin Acara (Acarichthys heckelii Albino)

$41.36 $50.04
Albino Threadfin Acara (Acarichthys heckelii Albino)The Albino Threadfin Acara is a graceful and often overlooked South American cichlid that combines the elegant shape of the wild form with a striking albino appearance. It is highly valued for its peaceful demeanor—uncommon for a fish of its size—and its eye-catching coloration.Appearance Coloration: The fish displays a beautiful, pale body that ranges from creamy white and silver-pink to a soft yellow or orange-pink, often with shimmering iridescent scales when reflecting light. Eyes: Due to the albino genetics, the eyes are a distinguishing vibrant red or pink. Fins: The name "Threadfin" comes from the exceptionally long, sweeping filaments that trail from the dorsal and caudal (tail) fins, which give the fish a magnificent, regal appearance as it swims. These filaments may sometimes be tipped with a pale red or orange hue. Size: This is a medium-to-large cichlid, reaching an adult size of approximately 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 cm). Personality and Behavior Temperament: The Albino Threadfin Acara is one of the most peaceful cichlids suitable for a large community tank. It is generally non-aggressive towards tank mates of similar size. Eartheater Behavior: Like its close relatives, it belongs to the "Eartheater" group (Geophagini) and exhibits a natural sand-sifting behavior. It will take mouthfuls of sand, sift it through its gills to find small bits of food and detritus, and expel the clean sand, which helps aerate the substrate. Social: They can be kept singly, as a pair, or in a small group in a sufficiently large aquarium, which encourages more natural social behaviors. Ideal HabitatTo thrive, this fish requires a spacious tank (75-90 gallons minimum for adults) with a setup that caters to its sand-sifting habit: Substrate: A fine, smooth sand substrate is essential to prevent injury to their delicate gills and mouth when sifting. Lighting: Due to their albinism, they are more sensitive to light, so subdued or moderate lighting is best. Floating plants or plenty of tall, rooted plants can help diffuse bright light. Decor: They appreciate lots of driftwood, rocks, and caves for security and to mark territory, though they need plenty of open swimming space as well. This elegant fish makes a captivating and unique center-piece in a stable, well-maintained aquarium, offering the appeal of a large cichlid without the typical aggressive temperament.
