It is recommended to maintain them in groups of no fewer than six individuals, with larger groups being preferable; in their natural habitat, they are typically found in schools exceeding 100 fish. The aquarium should be richly planted to create a variety of hiding spots and shaded areas that these fish find beneficial. While this species can adapt to a broad spectrum of water conditions, they thrive best in soft, acidic water that closely resembles their natural surroundings.
