Tucano Tetra F1 1.5cm-2cm The Tucano or Toucan Tetra is a stunning small fish found exclusively in the upper Rio Negro and Uapes regions of Brazil and Colombia. This species was only identified in 1997 and is still relatively rare in the aquarium trade. In their natural habitat, these fish thrive in shallow, calm waters of flooded forests, characterized by deeply tannin-stained and highly acidic conditions, often surrounded by dense leaf litter and overhanging branches or driftwood. With their striking black, gold, and reddish hues, along with a gentle temperament and schooling nature, they serve as a captivating focal point in blackwater, botanical-style, or aquascaped tanks. It’s best to keep them in groups of at least 10, as they generally coexist well with other peaceful species, although they can be timid and may be intimidated by larger or more active fish. Creating an aquarium environment that closely mimics their natural habitat and water chemistry will help the Tucano Tetra exhibit their most vibrant colors and behaviors.
